To briefly check your mails or sending some pictures or greetings to those who have stayed at home can be costly. Usually internet packages for foreign countries are very expensive and limited as well.
At sea, its even more difficult to find a reasonable internet connection. Cruise companies adapt to the need of their guests to be "online" but the connections are still rare or extremly expensive. For this reason, I prefer to use free WIFI connections in the cities and ports of my journey.
Below, you find a list of WIFI-hotspots, which I've found by myself or via research.
Abu Dhabi - Tent at the dock, access data (terminalad) oder look at the tourism info.
Akureyri - Souvenir shop at the port (find access data in the shop)
Alicante - port terminal
Amsterdam - port terminal

Antigua - Heritage Quay / Bar Harbour View at the port (great seaview!)

Ashdod - partially on bus trips
Athen - port terminal
Bahamas - port terminal
Bahrain - There is an office building next to Bab al Bahrain, Go to the bathrooms/second floor, next to there is a telecommunication company with free wifi
Baltimore - At WTC and between WTC and Hard Rock Cafe / railway station Pennstation and on Amtrak-trains
Barbados - port terminal
Barcelona - Free Wifi on HopOnHopOff buses / McDonals at the port / Hardrock Cafe City Centre
Belem - Docas at port
Bergen - port terminal
Bonaire - Leave the ship and go left to water taxi at Karel's Beach Bar / free WIFI behind the big yellow building right from the dock.
Boston - Downtown, next to Quincy Market
Boston/Harvard - The Coop (book store and Cafe).
Brügge - Friet Museum and "grote markt"
Brüssel - Atomium / Restaurant "old wild west", Rue Henri Maus 45" next to Grand Place.
Brunei - port terminal
Buenos Aires - port terminal

Cannes - McDonalds / at the town hall (Hotel de Ville)

Dominica - Free Wifi at Garraway Hotel, right from the dock.
Dover - After registratrion you get 3 hours free wifi connection at deck 5 / city centre, Barclays Bank (Highspeed)
Dubai - port terminal (very slow) / Dubai Mall - Burj Khalifa.
Dubrovnik - WIFI at the Cablecar Station / ARTcafe at the corner Don Frana Bulica. / Dr. Ante Starcevica.
Eidfjord - port terminal (access data: 3idfjord)
Ferrol - Free WIFI at Hotel Parador/Herrerias Gardens. 10 Minutes on foot to the city centre, you can get a map from the tourist info where you find all wifi zones.
Fuerteventura - Cafe at port entrance.
Funchal/Madeira - market hall and at some spots in the pedestrian zone.
Göteborg - port terminal
Gran Canaria - shopping centre next to the port (McDonald´s) or directly on your cruise ship
Grenada - in the middle of the cruise terminal (3 USD for no limit surfing)
Guadeloupe - port terminal (you can only log in for one time)
Haifa - port terminal

Helsinki - at the dock (Souvenirshop) / cathedral square / very good wifi at the railway station
